Pulse doesn't even pulse?

If I press pulse it slowly starts moving instead of doing a quick burst like every other food processor I've ever used, I can choose between unevenly minced/liquefied or using the grating disk, which sometimes works ok if the food is solid enough and fits just right into the feed tube, otherwise it just goes for a carousel ride on top of the disk... I've used this 3 times in total and each time has been pure disappointment. Hopefully I'll be able to exchange it for something that will actually work
