Had problems with the USB charging box where it would work one minute and then not work another minute. We disconnected and reconnected everything as a reset and seems to be working so far. Fingers crossed.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Extremely poor user manual. Noma the supplier is of no assistance beyond the manual.

Purchased this to charge marine batteries. Opened the box and started to read the manual which was of no value. The manual describes a number of items however it does not explain any of them or how to get to them. I contacted Noma and they were about as much help as the manual. While it seems to work, it would be valuable to understand what the controller can and cannot do as well as what all of the setting mean.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Questions

Q: Can I use 2 100watt Noma solar panels kits to charge my 2- 6volt batteries that are connected in series for 12 volt RV set up. How do I connect the 2 solar panels together. The solar panels come with the controller and cables.

  • A: If you connect the two panels in parallel, they will maintain 12v but will double your amperage output. So you will want to connect the positives leads on the panels together and the negative leads from the panels together and wire to the charge controller. With the extra amperage, you might want to upgrade the conductors as the are pretty light gauge. Mind you, I have two 12V deep cycle batteries on my RV in parallel and I can keep them fairly topped up with a single 100W panel.

Q: My charge controller was working fine but now it's shows an E03 error. What does this mean? User manual has no info. My battery seems to be charging fine but charge controller shows this error. Thx

  • A: Error code - E03 Cause - Short circuit protection of load Correction - Rectify short-circuit, and switch on load manually or wait for 5 mins for auto switch-on by controller.

Q: Can I use a 10 gauge wire, 40 feet extension, from the solar panel to the charge controller, making it a portable unit.

  • A: No disrespect intended for CT's response, but heat isn't really the issue. 30A on No. 10 copper will stay safely under 60 degrees C (ref. Canadian Electrical Code 24th Edition, Table 2). The bigger concern is voltage drop, i.e. the voltage loss over the length of the cable. With one of these panels producing rated output of 5.5A, you will lose about 0.5V on 40 feet of No. 10. That's a little under 5% of the nominal system voltage (12). 5% is both a rule of thumb and electrical code-specified maximum voltage drop. If you parallel panels (not that you asked) figure on losing about another half a volt per panel, so even 2 panels on that length of No. 10 would not be wise, and the maximum number of these panels that the controller could handle (5 panels x 5.5A = 27.5A) would result in a 2.6V loss which is crazy huge on a 12V system. But if you're getting into that kind of power there are better ways of doing it.

Q: How many Amps is the controller rated for if I wanted to add more panels together?

2 Answers
  • A: the rated current of the charge controller is 30A, that is fixed, so if the customer want to add more panels together by parallel circuit, the total output amperage should be lower than 30A, as the solar panel is 5.5A for this SKU, so that could not more than 5 panels in total.

Q: Would it be possible to hook a 40 watt panel and 100 watt panel together with a splitter?

  • A: I hooked up the 100 watt panel that came with , also a 40 w and 60 w., getting 13.9 volts and 7.9 a at lunchtime with full sun. Not sure if the 13.9 volts is the battery charge or the charging voltage, this was done while running a 1000w inverter and my 20 inch led tv running and charging my iphone
