Neato Botvac Connected D501 Robot Vacuum

I love this thing. I have always been sceptical about these types of vacuums but now I know I was mistaken. Having done some research before I knew the Neato was the better option as it does not go randomly about its business. It maps out the area then vacuums like you would cut the grass, back and forward. I never liked the idea of the competition’s method of just bouncing about the place until it was done. Pros: 1. It is super easy to set up. I just plugged it in and started the app. Within 2 minutes it had connected to the WiFi, updated its own software, and then started to vacuum. 2. It goes slow, but that is a good thing. It does a very thorough job compared to a frantic back and forward of a hand vacuum. 3. I was amazed at how much stuff it picked up from what was an already ‘clean’ floor. It really gets into all the areas that you may rush by when doing it by hand. It also gets under lots of the furniture including beds and sofas. I am even considering raising one of the beds that it can’t get under just so it can fit. 4. It does a big area before having to go back and charge, not that that is an issue as it is all automated. 5. No issues with stairs. It stops at the top with no issued and no need for me to use any of the magnetic ‘keep out’ tape. I have heard you need to make sure the stair sensors are kept clean but I don’t see that being an issue. Cons, if you want to call them that: 1. While it is not quiet it is still a lot quieter than a stand along vacuum. For some reason people expect this to be silent but forget how loud a normal vacuum is. So no, you can’t run it while you are in bed sleeping, or while you have a sleeping baby (I have tried the latter). 2. It does get stuck if you don’t do a quick clean up first. Only thing that I have had an issue with is leaving cloths on the ground. Everything else it works around. I love this thing especially now that I say to my wife I am busy vacuuming if she wants me to do something else or complains I am not “pulling my weight” around the house. Neato as my back.
