Solid starter chest

Bought it from a friend when starting a mechanic apprenticeship and has been solid. Only minor complaint is one drawer is a little finicky to open. But overall a good box.

I'm very pleased with this purchase. It is a quality prodct and the stainless steel looks great. The only thing that I would change is where the instructions were located. The manual should have been in the same drawer as the castors.

Q: Does the listed assembled height include the castors? If not, is there an approximate height that the castors add? Thank you.

  • A: They are included with the drawer including the mounting hardware. They are pretty heavy duty, just MAKE SURE you don't tip the container on its side because then all the bolts will fly around inside and you'll have to remove all the drawers to find them.

Q: Does the width includes the handle? If not, what is the dimension of the handle?

Q: What gauge is the steel? This question was asked previously and the response from the Canadian Tire team was 7mm. That is obviously not a correct answer.

Q: Can you securely install a vice to the butcher's block? Is it possible to install a vice using bolts through the top part of the chest, i.e. the 3cm butcher's block?

  • A: I used a similar box at my previous job. I mounted a small 4" vise on the butcher block with no problems. That said I was using it for light duty jobs. I would not use it if you need to put all your weight on a wrench to loosen a nut or pipe fitting.

Q: What is the intended purpose of the additional 2 wheel mount, 8 threaded inserts located in the center, bottom of the base cabinet?

  • A: This is the old version bottom panel in case some customers want to install more castors for high load situations. However no customers request them for years and the middle threaded inserts are cancelled now. So you can disregard them.
