Q: What company manufactures the OE oil filter.

A: They are not made by FRAM, cut them apart and you'll see how much better the OE Plus is than the FRAM. These are made by Champion Laboratories in Albion, Illinois. This is also the parent company of Luber-Finer.

Q: I wonder why are oil throughput holes on the inside of Motomaster OE Plus filter are so small compared to those on filters of other brands (Fram, Quaker State, Mobile 1, etc)?
I don't see how having smaller throughput openings can be good for oil flow.

A: Hi Anton, the backplate differences are cosmetic only. The contact surfaces with the mounting base is exactly the same on both. Both plates have the same threads, thread pitch diameters, and more importantly, the same distance from the top of the gasket to the start of the first thread. Burst and pulse strength is also the same on both. Installation “feel” is the same.
From a fluid flow point of view they are also identical. Pressure drop across both filter assemblies is the same. Or, in other words, oil flow rate is the same at a given differential pressure.

Q: How come oil throughput holes on the inside of these filters are so small? They almost looks like closed louvers.
Are they supposed to be like this by design? I don't see how this can be good for oil throughput speed/capacity.
