Do not hold a charge.

Very disappointed. I expected better given their cost. I bought 2 for use in my trailer in May. I ensured the cells were topped up, charged them, then tested with a hydrometer which showed each cell was in the ‘yellow’ (caution) level. I would’ve expected new batteries to be in the green (good). So I took them back to Can Tire to be tested, which showed them to be in the “acceptable” range. I used them camping in June and found that they drained quickly (down to 12.43 on second day - with very little load draw). Had to use generator each day after that, yet they still dropped 12.09 at end. Went camping again, and experienced same results, having to use the generator each day, even twice a day some days, just to try to keep them alive. And this is with very little load - occasional use of 1 led light, no stereo, no furnace. Once home, fully charged them and again tested with hydrometer which showed clearly in the red (dead). So I took them back again to Can Tire for load testing, only to be told that they checked out ‘good’. So I’m stuck with them, resigned to having to charge them everyday, perhaps twice per day camping, until I can bring myself to replace them by spending another $500.00 on new batteries which will not be from Canadian Tire. All previous batteries of other makes have performed far better than these.

Q: What is the maximum these batteries can efficiently be discharged? I have two set up in series to create 12v for my RV. I have two 100w solar panels charging them. Thank you.

A: If the battery bank discharges to 12.2 volt on a daily basis, you will get 1200 cycles 12.3 volt you will get 2000 cycles 12.4 volt you will get 2500 cycles, etc, The trick is to size your battery bank accordingly, I try to never let my solar bank of 6 of these batteries go below 12.3 volt (resting voltage) I use my solar at my RV (full time summer residence) maximum 165 days a year which should give me a battery life of at least 10 years, 12.2 volt = battery life of 7 years, etc.

Q: 2 year owner of a tv for the last 2 years I have had to replace my 2 6v batteries. I trickle charge through the winter and disconnect during camping and each time my batteries are dead. I can’t afford to replace them every year. What am I doing wrong?

A: Proper care and maintenance is essential for realizing maximum life from any lead acid batteries, in particular those used in cycling applications. Here are some tips: -Avoid draining the batteries beyond 50% state of charge. (Shallower discharges will result in longer battery life, deeper discharges shorten battery life.) Basically you should avoid discharging beyond 6.05V, or 12.1V if connected in series (no load, at rest measurement). If you find your system/application is draining the batteries lower than that, you need to (a) add more batteries and/or, (b) charge the batteries more frequently (often achieved by using solar panels to help charge while the batteries are in use). - Make sure your batteries are charged back to full after each use (regardless of how little they may have been drained). - Charge the batteries back to full as soon as possible after use (as sulphation can start to form on the plates of a discharged battery after just a few hours of sitting discharged). - Be sure that you do not overcharge your batteries. (Most modern battery chargers are automatic and will automatically stop charging once the battery is full.) - Make sure you are regularly checking the electrolyte levels within the battery. (Low electrolyte levels will hamper performance and accelerate plate corrosion.) Open the caps on the cover of the battery and look inside to verify electrolyte is covering the top of the lead plates. If the electrolyte level is low, you must add distilled water to increase the electrolyte level above the plates. If all these tips are being followed, we would suggest evaluating your battery bank in comparison to the applications you have onboard your RV. We would also suggest looking to find a parasitic drain onboard your RV that could be draining your batteries.

A: General solar rule is to have 1 solar watt per 1 amp hour. However usage is key, if you only use 10% of your battery bank in a day an 85 watt panel will likely work well in good sun exposure. If you drain half of your batteries in a day, you need to size your panels properly. Way too much to mention here, but reading about solar panel efficiency and charge controller technology will save you time and money.

A: Also, you didn't mention what you want to use this battery in but if it's just a "starting" battery for an old 6-volt car or piece of farm equipment, MotoMaster model 010-0108 would be want you want (not this deep cycle battery).

Q: would 6 or 8 of these batteries be better for achieving equal voltage between batteries and therefore achieving long lifespan. ( currently have 4 of these batteries and and need more capacity ( 12 volt wired series/ parallel.

Q: How do I ensure matching age/freshness on entire six battery bank? I am ordering 6 batteries. Online ordering insists on filling order with 2 from store stock and 4 from warehouse. Store stock is likely older which will draw down newer batteries in bank.

A: Despite being from a different batch / production date, since none of the 6 batteries would have seen any service, they would all be the same "age." If you do wish for all 6 batteries to be of similar production date, you'll need to call your local store and make arrangements for them to order 6 for you.
