Q: As others have noted -it doesnt say anywhere that it is maintenance free. I tried to pry off the one side to check the levels. It fits back down well but is it still useable?

  • A: Maintenance Free Design  Nautilus® Starting batteries have calcium/calcium grid design for “maintenance free” performance.

Q: Can I use this battery for a flotec sump backup battery? The recommended battery is a 100 to 120 A-H Deep Cycle Marine Battery! Anny other suggestion for an other battery?

2 Answers
  • A: You can but this battery is designed to give maximum Cranking at startup, not amp hours for a house battery you should use a deep cycle that has storage for extended use (Higher Amp hours lower Cranking amps)

Q: Do I need to check the electrolyte level in this battery?

1 Answer
  • A: No, this is a maintenance-free marine STARTING battery. The caps are not removable. Conversely, a marine DUAL PURPOSE or DEEP CYCLE battery, by the nature of it's design and use, would require the electrolyte level to be checked and topped up, if necessary, periodically.

1 Answer
  • A: The internal resistance of a new battery is approximately 2.6 ohms. Factors such as temperature will affect this rating.

Q: The ampacity of this battery is not in the specifications, and I cannot figure out how to calculate it from the information given. Can anyone help me?

1 Answer
  • A: It’s unclear what you mean by the battery’s ampacity? If you mean it’s amp hour rating, this battery is not rated for Ah since it is a starting/cranking battery. Please consider a deep cycle battery for your application. (Ah ratings are provided for deep cycle batteries.)

Q: I have a Nautilus Marine starting battery product 010-2495-6 - When recharging the battery, what is the maximum amps and voltage it should be charged at.  I do have a smart charger that has a charge setting for maximum voltage of either14.4 or 14.7 volts.

1 Answer
  • A: We would recommend the 14.7V setting. Maximum charge rate is 20A although you can exceed as long as you monitor for excessive heat. In and around a 10A rate would be optimal.

Q: MOTOMASTER NAUTILUS Starting Battery, #010-2495-6. Situation: Preferred boat installation space is not level. What are the safe/recommended angle limits for long-term non-horizontal battery mounting?

1 Answer
  • A: Wet/flooded batteries can cope with as much as about 30° angle. However this would be in a stationary application since a battery in a vehicle would be subjected to additional angle (think hills, waves, etc.). We would strongly encourage you to consider an AGM (or Gel) format battery (such as MotoMaster Nautilus 010-2498) as they can be mounted in any position (completely upside down not recommended) with zero risk of leakage.
