Does the job as expected ;)

Worked as needed/expected. (FYI this requires a 12V plug that works when the vehicle is off - the one in my center console is not live but the one in the rear of my vehicle is - I tested it with my cell phone charger and the car off first to make sure)

Q: how long can the memory saver hold the info?

    2 Answers
    • A: To be clear, the memory saver device does not itself hold info. It keeps basic power to the vehicle so that the vehicle's computers can retain their info while the 12V lead-acid battery disconnected. How long it can do this is different for all vehicles depending on how draw (i.e. power consumption of computers, interior lights, etc.) however long enough to swap batteries. This particular memory saver is suitable for vehicles that have an "always live" 12V outlet. It is not suitable for vehicles that require the ignition to be in the Acc(essories) ON position in order for the 12V outlet to be powered.

Q: If it's necessary to leave the ignition on accessory to power to the vehicles 12V socket, can you still replace a battery (disconnect battery cables) with the key in the accessory position, or does that create any risks to damaging anything?

    • A: as an aside, wiring up one of your 12v outlets to be always on is a very useful hack for other reasons.  for example, recharging your cell while the car is parked, without having to leave your keys in the ignition.  it's an easy mod, at the fuse block, to piggyback off one of the always live circuits and power the socket, just be careful not short anything, and maintain the fuse protection.

Q: Can I use it if my battery is disconnected for a longer period, from 3 to 4 months? Will the 9V alcaline battery be enough strong for it? I am planning to put my Hyundai Elantra 2012 in storage for 3 to 4 months. I was advised to disconnect the negative charge of the battery so that it won't discharge. Can I use this memory saver for keeping the data safe? Thanks

    • A: As an alternative, leave your battery connected and consider using a small battery maintainer. If you don't have AC power available, consider a solar panel.

Q: Can this be used for more then one vehicle? So you just plug it into your cigarette lighter and it saves the information? And if able to use on another vehicle, will it erase your information and resave the new information?

    • A: The unit doesn't save an information. It just keeps power going to your computer while you disconnect and reconnect your battery.

Q: 9V vs 12V? How does this work, as it uses a 9V battery whereas a car's systems are designed for 12V?

    2 Answers
    • A: most of the actual electronics work at lower voltages, and usually have some sort of voltage regulator.  9v is sufficient to keep them happy, but not necessarily enough to actually drive the car.

Q: Yes or no please: ACC ignition must be on with non-live] cig outlets AND will 9V battery have enough power to preserve settings in this scenario?

    1 Answer
    • A: This product is not suitable for vehicles that require the ignition to be in the ACC position to have a “live” 12V outlet. Please consider one of the OBD2 port memory saver options.

    Q: Why 9V instead of 12v?

    1 Answer
    • A: 9 volts is sufficient to retain memory settings and is a readily available household battery. (Using 12 volts would require numerous household batteries connected in series.)

Q: Mine comes up with a red light, like others have reported ... not green .... with the included battery measuring 10.01volts. It seems to have done the job in a 2015 Grand Caravan (kept the radio stations). BUT ... How come no official responded?

    1 Answer
    • A: An older model was equipped with a green LED; it has since been changed to a red LED. In either case, the LED simply indicates that there is power from the 9V battery. We will ask the manufacturer to review/update the instructions.

Q: What about all the other memories pertaining to idling, power steering, charging and the rest. will the car have to go through a relearning process for all the rest for the settings?

    1 Answer
    • A: Yes, these settings would be retained. However, please be sure not to confuse retaining memory settings with the fact that many newer vehicles specifically require battery registration or reset after a new battery is installed (like most BMWs). This product does not mitigate the need to register a new battery or reset systems after a new battery is installed if the vehicle manufacturer calls for this step(s) whenever a new battery is installed. Please check your owner’s manual or consult with your vehicle service provider to understand if your vehicle requires registration and/or reset when a new battery is installed.
