The MotoMaster Marine Lower Unit Gear Lube Pump makes fluid transfer to small engines spill-free and easy. With flexible hoses that reach tight fill plugs and adaptors for most lower units, this 5-piece kit pumps gasoline, diesel, water and low-viscosity liquids. The 24-inch (61 cm) delivery hose and extension hoses of 4.5 and 5.5 inches (11.4 and 14 cm) enable fuss-free filling. It includes 3/8 - 16 inch UNC and 8mm adaptors fitting OMC, Mercruiser, Evinrude, Johnson, Volvo, Force, Honda over 70 hp, Mercury (US) and Yamaha, Nissan, Tohatsu, Honda, Mercury (Japan). Worked great!

After trying to top-fill the lower unit using funnels, and a ketchup squirt bottle with no success, I bought this to bottom-up fill the lower unit on my Johnson 75 Outboard with gear oil. The included adapter threaded in perfectly, and the pump screwed onto a newly opened 1L bottle of marine gear oil which had enough head room so that it did not overflow when the neck of the pump went in. Because of other reviews, I was mindful to hold the filling tube securely onto the pump nozzle while pumping, but it didn't try to blow itself off so I was able to let go once I felt safe with it. The neck of the pump only reaches about halfway down the gear oil bottle, so the pump eventually started to suck air. At that point I just squeezed the bottle to raise the level of the gear oil and continued to fill. Just when I started to get to the point where I had the oil bottle folded in half so the neck would continue to pick up oil, the top fill screw began to drip and the unit was full. With the pump still attached, I inserted the top drain plug, then quickly unscrewed the lower fill adapter and inserted the lower drain plug. The mess was minimal and I reliably know the lower unit is properly filled. I took the tubing and adapter off the pump, let as much oil drip and pump out as possible, wiped it down, and put it back in the packaging for next time. This was definitely the right tool for the job.

Made the differentials and transfer case fluid replacement a breeze... No mess!!! Fit perfectly in the quarter bottles and was able to squeeze all the fluid out of them!

I used this to fill 4 liters of 75w140 gear oil and it worked great. Yes the clamp isn't the best and the hose will come off. Find a better clamp, use some silicone, or glue it on! The pump itself is not junk as some say. It definitely could use an improvement like having a ridge on the pump where the hose goes on but it still made my life a lot easier

Q: Will it it fit Mercury 4 stroke outboard lower unit?

  • A: I have used it on the lower units of a Yamaha 40HP and Johnson 9.9HP. They are 4 stroke and I had to use both fittings to pump oil into the lower unit. I imagine one of the fittlings would fit a Mercury.

  • A: This Lower Unit pump kit is supplied with common 3/8-16” and 18mm threaded connections. Regrettably, we cannot confirm as Suzuki does not appear to readily publish this information, so we would suggest confirming the thread size of the gear oil plug for your outboard first.
