The product does what it is intended for. Compared to its popular competitors from First Alert and Safe Sentry, it is marginally less expensive for the equivalent product. There is some misinformation in the description. According to the included product information, model 1106 (the 0.38 cu. ft. model) is rated to protect against fire for a half hour, not an hour. Legal sized documents do not fit flat, nor do letter-sized document when laid down on the bottom (it is not quite 8.5 inches front to back). However, it is designed to hang letter-sized folders, and everything fits well that way (hanging folders, file folders, letter-sized paper). If you don't mind bending your legal documents, they can be fit around a corner (see photograph). Please note that you cannot remove the key when unlocked. On the negative side, the key is vulnerable to being knocked when inserted. On the positive side, encouraging the user to lock the box increases its integrity after a fall in a fire. As with all models of this type of consumer product, it is not meant to be a serious deterrent to theft, but is meant as protection against fire and water damage. At least with this model, you are not paying for a false sense of security that the more expensive "safe"-like models provides (search for how to open popular models of consumer fireproof safes on YouTube). Finally, there is a generously-sized bag of SiO2 desiccant inside, meant to prevent mold while in storage and shipping. Do not throw it out as it can be used, recharged (in the microwave oven or conventional oven) and reused to keep contents dry. As the container is sealed, trapped moisture may pose a problem if a desiccant is not kept within.
