Also a carpenter for over a decade the tape measure is the most important tool in my pouch! Bought this tape like the feel and the look! Love to try new tools but this is the 5th time in 2 months I return it for a new one! After the 1st and 2nd I thought it could be a defect so brought it back but the same problem happens every time! Starts to tear and catches when retracting from 28 inches to 36 inches I do not recommend this tape to anybody! Clearly there is a problem.. thank god for the consumer 3 year warranty thats available but the company is going to loose money like this! Stanley fat max forever!!

As a professional carpenter with decades of experience, I know a good tape measure is critical to good work. This tape is solid, with a great passover free standing range, however the markings are awkward on the front, with the inch/metric a bit cluttered. The rear inch only markings are better for framing layout.
