good

Most higher end sets with the same amount of tools would cost three, if not five, times as much and you still get the life time warranty.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Disappointed - not the quality I'm used to

I was disappointed, I have been purchasing Mastercraft tools for over 30 years and my workshop is full of them. When I opened the box I noticed that the 1/2" ratched had been droped and had a dent on the top and it had been reworked (one of the grooves on the handle had been cut after chroming), the lazer etching was poorly done and looked as it would be very difficult to read once it got dirty or more scratched. Just didn't have the quality I have come to expect from Mastercraft Maximum, I returned the set.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great Product For A Great Price

I bought this set for school and have been using them daily with out problems. They are durable and work very well. Most higher end sets with the same amount of tools would cost three, if not five, times as much and you still get the life time warranty. Well worth the buy! The only down side are the trays that come with the set. They are a good idea, how ever they are very cheap plastic and the sockets keep falling in to the "finger trench". That is the only down side! Quick fix would be to stiffen the plastic with some fiberglass resin or something of the sort.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Quality Set for the Money

I just bought the 201 piece set for $99.99 (68% off) and I am largely happy with the purchase. This set has just about everything one would need in a socket set for backyard mechanic types like me. The ratchets are sturdy and have a solid clicking feel/sound when ratcheting. The laser etching on the sockets proper makes it easy to find the right one at a glance. The finish is a very high quality and the ratchets feel balanced and good to hold. The combination wrenches are basic Maximum ones, good to have handy, but most people will have a set of ratcheting combo wrenches. Lifetime warranty is always welcome. So far, I have never had a problem returning a Mastercraft tool, just grabbed a new one and went to Customer Service and showed them the two items. My only disappointment is the flimsy trays. These are obviously for shipping only. The 1/2" tray set will be all over the floor if you don't lift it with two hands. I remedied this by cutting some 1/4" plywood to size and gluing it on the underside of the trays with contact cement. An extra step for what should have been a sturdy tray to begin with. One hex driver was labeled different on the tray and didn't match the tool. 25 vs. 27 I believe. The trays fit well into the Maximum 26" tool chest drawers. They are about 25" wide, so check your drawers, or plan for arranging the set on your own. All in all a bargain at the price and durable enough to do the job for most mechanic I know.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Warranty For lifetime warranty items, is a receipt absolutely required for replacement? I'm anticipating a situation 10-20 yrs from now when something breaks and the receipt is long gone or the ink has faded away.

  • A: Honestly your normally not going to run into issues having your product warrantied with or without your receipt if it has a lifetime warranty on it. Ct does understand it can be a challenge to hang unto a receipt forever:p Ulitmately though "technically" the str requires the receipt for any kind of warranty so your best bet is to hang unto the receipt and as andrew93 suggested probably make a photocopy as well so it lasts as long as possible.

Q: WHAT KIND OF BOX IS USE FOR THIS PRODUCT?

2 Answers
  • A: The set it self comes in a cardboard box. Each tray comes in it's own cardboard box, inside a the bigger cardboard box. The trays them selves are flimsy plastic, but still do the job. They are L22" W10.5" H2". If you're looking for a tool chest to fit this set, I would recommend getting the socket holders. That way any tool chest will do.

Q: Where can I find a portable toolbox that fits all these trays?

  • A: Buy MasterCraft tool box 58-0929-6. However once you put the trays in don't expect to take them out! They will be in there tight!

Q: Set in store the 1/2 shallow sockets did not go higher than 15/16", the one in the picture on the website goes up to 1-1/4" and has stubby wrenches? Has this set changed to a newer version with less sockets and no stubby wrenches? Or will I luckily be able to find it somewhere?

2 Answers
  • A: Unfortunately they cost-reduced the set from 207 to only 201 pieces. The CR version has no stubbies, less sockets and extensions - but they do give you more of those useless screwdriver bits.

Q: "Laser Etching" I have seen tools with " laser etching" that comes off with enough use and manipulation. Has anyone had any issue with the size markings coming off the sockets with use?

  • A: Laser etching isn't very deep and will be gone with heavy use. Would be nice in the long run if they were etched and stamped.
