I purchased these to help store and move some items around the house during a renovation. They are sturdy and strong and carry a lot. I would highly recommend! This is a decent capacity to carry many items without becoming excessively heavy.

Q: Compared to Rubbermaid Roughnecks, do they resist stacking better with heavy loads? My Rubbermaid’s lids tend to curve and cave in when I stack too much weight on them. Has anyone been able to compare both?

  • A: These lids cannot withstand the same weight amount as the Rubbermaid ones. The Rubbermaid are narrower and have better quality plastic so I tend to be able to stack these 6 containers high without too much issue, but trying to maintain the heaviest totes near the bottom. These totes have lids that do not flex and end up cracking easily when weight is placed on top or even when trying to remove the lids, as they snap on but in order to remove them you need to flex the plastic and it has little to no give to it. I was stacking these 3 totes high and in both 'towers' the bottom tote lids were cracked. Any lid and tote will be damaged with enough weight, but these ones are definitely meant for light duty usage. I do think that the 210L version is amazing, but it is a standup tote and the lid is well designed, but the cost of those totes is out of touch now.

Q: Are the given measurements the inside or outside dimensions?

  • A: I just measured these storage bins in the store and dimensions on the website are not the same dimension as written on the product label. I confirm that the product label is correct with the lid on. The dimensions on the website are close to the height of the box without the lid.

Q: How well does this product seal? I need something that mice can't force their way into. Any suggestions for other products that are mouse proof?

  • A: I can imagine mice wiggling their way into them, but they do have zip-tie slots that might help keep them out. I wouldn't guarantee they'd keep the mice out, but it would be a challenge for them to get past the overhanging lip.

Q: How do these hold up outside? Will they survive a few years on a balcony in a typical Canadian winter?

  • A: These are about as good as it gets for storage containers. I have four of them under my deck and I store summer items in them over the winter. Also, they stack nicely.

  • A: They are water resistant; for example, if you have one with articles in it, and the lid is closed, the contents will stay dry.

  • A: From what I see on the recycle triangle (a 5) it is made of polypropylene. I'm not saying it is food safe but internet articles such as this https://www.epicgardening.com/which-plastics-are-safe-for-gardening/ suggest that it generally is. Again I'm not an expert, just a link to an internet article.

  • A: Not normally. The lids are separate in the store, but only for space saving, they don't have barcodes on them. Canadian tire might be able to help you with that though.

Q: What is the maximum weight the stacked lids/boxes can handle? Thinking of storing them stacked in the basement... How much weight can the lids handle - and how many boxes can stack on top of each other? Thank you

  • A: Actually, the lids don't hold any weight since that there's four "tabs" from the bin sticking out through the lids. Those are what the weight of the upper bin will be on, on the four corners of the lower bin

Q: Are these boxes nesting? I'm wondering if they fit inside each other when not in use, or if they just stack on top of each other. (I'm not sure I have space to store them all)
