Q: Good evening I picked up an arc welder/inverter kit, 100A.. I haven't been able to find anything on it.. please help Thanks

  • A: I've been using it casually for a year now - generally it works as expected. Fine for 1/8 and 3/16" steel....I think it would work for 1/4" as well based on the settings. I just played around doing some test welds to see what settings worked best.

Q: Do you use different rods depending on what type of steel you are using? I will mostly be dealing with mild steel as well as High Carbon steel. Or are the sticks pretty much universal?

2 Answers
  • A: You should try to match strengths of rod to the steel. Having said that we find 6013 and 6011 in 3/32" is pretty much all we can burn with this small machine. Both are good for mild steel. Haven't tried 7018 for increased strength as the 3/32" rod uses a bit more amperage than the machine can produce.  On a side note1/16" 316 stainless rod gave us a good bead and penetration.

Q: I have used this Welder a few times, when using 1/16” rods, I have no issue. But when I move to 3/32”, the house breaker trips after a rod and a half or so. Is this normal? 20A breaker and I have tried two separate outlets on independent breakers.

  • A: I don't use this welder for bigger rods I use it on 110 volts only. I have a bigger welder for thicker rods therefore I need to plug it in on a 220 volts.
