Q: Can I hook this generator to my main panel box to power the necessities in my house during a power outage or do I have to plug each item in separately to the generator?

A: Yes, I have hooked this unit up to my main panel with a special breaker interlock kit to prevent back feeding power out onto the grid. This way I can select breakers to power up anything in the house. This is very handy because I can even run the hot water tank or well pump provided that I don’t have to many other things also powered up at the same time. Many appliances can be run intermittently such as a fridge. A separate transfer panel is another way to do it but it’s not as flexible because it will only power up 6 or 8 circuits but simple to use and safe. Talk to an electrician.

A: Thanks all. I decided just to use a 240 plug and split the power into 120v receptacles that way.

Q: Hello. I need this generator to power a meter-base transfer switch. Is the 4-wire L14-30 outlet GFCI protected? Also, does this unit have a voltage regulator?

A: All generators have a voltage regulator. On this unit it is under the blue circular cap on the opposite side of the engine, looks like a quarter circle. They are not GFCI plugs however.

Q: As a newbie, I am confused about the 120/240v L14 outlet. Does it automatically determine the voltage or is there a switch? I tried it on my through wall transfer switch and blew my furnace.

A: The L14 puts out is 4 wire receptacle. It outputs both 120 and 240 at the same time. There are 2 hot wires, a neutral and a ground wire. Between the two hots is 240 volts. Between either of the hots and neutral is 120 volts.
