    Excellent multi-tool

I live on a sailboat in the Pacific Ocean. Between salt air and salt water, tools take a real beating. This wire stripper multi-tool is an invaluable addition to my tool collection. I use it daily and it is simple and sturdy. Yes, there are better tools for specific jobs, but as an overall everyday user, this is great. The stainless is holding up very well so far.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Buy your electrical tools individually

This is the same idea as a Leatherman tool, except the main tool is the wire strippers and the other tools that might come in handy to someone doing electrical work. The wire strippers are okay, but I find dedicated wire strippers (e.g., model #0529938) are every bit as good and are only two thirds the price. The supplemental tools in the handles are what might attract a handyman. Here are my comments: - screwdrivers are okay. They haven't been rounded off and the open easily enough, but they are awkward to use because the screwdriver is not centered in the handle like it is in a regular screwdriver. - the blade needs to be sharpened regularly and doesn't keep an edge. It is awkward to use knife because it is in an odd position when you hold the handles. - the saw does work, although it useful for only very thin wood and I suspect would quickly dull if tested on hardwoods - the file is adequate to do your nails, but that's about it. - the wire hook and wire cutter do work, but they are (again) awkward to use because of their position in the handle. Overall? It's not a bad tool if you are doing an occasional electrical job (e.g., replacing an electric cord on a lamp). Personally, I'd spend more on better quality individual tools dedicated to a single use (e.g., wire strippers, wire hook) and skip this multitool.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Questions

    1 - 1 of 1 Question

Q: What are the two holes near the bottom of the jaws of the stripper part intended for?  (Located just under the AWG and MM marks)

    1 Answer
    • A: They help to bend wires consistently before you make a connection. Place the straight bare wire in the hole and turn your hand inward to create a hook shape with the wire, then make your connection to a switch/receptacle.
