Bought this to replace a glass cooktop and also the induction models don’t work for me. It’s all I need. Might get a second if not a double burner. Doesn't get too warm on sides if you need to move it (without a pot!) after you're done.

I bought one of these as a stop-gap, the day my range died. I expected the quality of one I had, also from Canadian Tire, 25yrs ago at school. This one is disappointing. The small size of the burner sitting higher than the rest of the unit, with no supports for cookware, leaves a 12” frying pan unstable bordering on unsafe. The temperature control is kind of useless until you ruin enough food to figure it out. A minor adjustment went from barely warming raw bacon to burning it in the middle with the ends raw. I’d feel bad donating this thing to a thrift store, and ruining someone else’s meals. It’s fine for boiling water in an 8” pot for soup or something like that I guess. Better than nothing but, I’d just as soon save the cost of it and cook over a fire in the driveway.

Worked Well During Gas Outage

Bought this when there was a natural gas outage as we have a gas stove. It heated up fairly quickly, boiled water and cooled off quickly. It has rubber feet which ensured it did t slip around on the counter. Gave it 4 stars as it is a bit light so not sure how heavy a pot it can hold.

Works well as described and is very portable

Bought this item a week ago and followed the instructions "For the first time only" which is included in the package. Did this on my counter top in my home kitchen to verify it worked properly and did not make the counter surface hot. The cooktop boils, simmers and warms really well with a teflon 2QT pot which is the largest size that fits safely on the burner. Certainly not as fast as my home stove but this little cooktop runs on half the voltage of my home stove. I plan to use it in my camper van instead of the propane stove because I think an electric burner is safer than propane (no noxious fumes), is much easier to use and can run-off the 120V in my van.

  • A: I purchased two for this specific purchase during a winter sale and when canning season came, I was disappointed to find out that my pots were bigger than the burners so I was unable to use them - so check your pot size to make sure they are small enough. Also, I wasn't sure if the wattage was powerful enough to bring things to a boil

  • A: Although I'm not familiar with the specs on the 4650 cc generator, the Master Chef Single Burner Hot Plate works best with same power rating from the average kitchen outlet. 120 volts at 15 amps for uninterrupted operation.

  • A: Hi Bill B, Master Chef Hot Plate model #043-1200-6 dial starts at 0 and cannot turn counter-clockwise. From '0' there are 3 dots that increase in size which is a 'keep warm' zone followed by 1~5. It's a clockwise motion with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest.

  • A: No, the Burner does not automatically shut off. You must turn it off. There is an indicator light which shows that it is on, but It shows green when it is heating and red when it is turned down or dialed off. We have made a habit of unplugging it, so that it will not inadvertently be left on.
