Great for about 5 months, then the problems start. Will not brew a full pot, keep warm does not always work. Per website, I reset the water leave numerous times, but still get half a pot each brew and the hot plate does not come on.

Very messy poor design

This is my second review of this product. The first review dealt more with my early experience with the complexity of set up and operation I found this machine a bit more complicated than it needed to be. However now that I have used it for a while it is probably also the dirtiest coffee maker I have ever used. When making small batches of coffee, 36oz or less, using the cone filter I have found that this machine splashes coffee grounds all over the perimeter of the basket as well as up on the water dispenser area. Unless you turn it on its' side and clean the brew head after every brew you will end up with a mass of coffee ground covering the brew head. You also need to remove the brew spray head frequently to clean coffee grounds. Unfortunately you can't really see the underside of the brew head without turning the coffee maker on its' side so you really don't know this is happening until there is a big mess. In my opinion this problem is caused by a poor design of the brew head. The brew head concentrates the water into the center of the basket which hollows out the grounds and pushes ground up the sides and over the edge of the brew basket. This could have been somewhat avoided with a brew head was designed more like a shower head so it dispersed the brew water more evenly over the grounds. This is a fairly expensive coffee maker and I did not expect it to be so problematic. I am really starting to regret this purchase.

Designed for great coffee

I am extremely happy with this coffee maker. It is a simple and straightforward design, very easy to use and makes great coffee. I appreciate the two different filter baskets, and the removable water tank, as well as the programmable timer. It is very easy to clean and looks great on my counter. I highly recommend.

Extremely disappointed

I want to make sure that my review is understood for what it's supposed to be! I love Breville!! I've had the espresso machine for 8years now and still going. I bought this particular machine expecting somewhat of the same, four months into my ownership, the heating plate stopped keeping my coffee hot and the plate started peeling and staining my counters! It also emits this real gross smell ( Chemically derived ) that concerns me. I've reported it and just shipped it back for replacement. So far I am in the process of wait and see what happens; if it's replaced or repaired, or how long it will last etc. For this kind of money this should not be happening, therefore buyer beware. This seems to me as if it's probably a pattern with this particular unit.
