Silicone

Good product==clings well to surfaces around furnace and pipes etc. Rare that the complete tube would be used and regardless of how much care you take in sealing off off the end of the tube it will go hard. Hard to find smaller tubes of the same product on the shelf.

Q: On our oven door the metal frame has separated from the bottom of the glass viewing window. Can this product be used to join the two materials together and if so once it dries would it give off any fumes/odors.

  • A: Yes you could use this on the oven door. I'd also put a strip of refractory insulation in then use this over top to seal it in. There are no fumes. Follow the directions and you'll be fine.

Q: I want to use this to apply some galvanized mesh to some gaps around a gas BBQ underneath the BBQ bowl. Intention is to keep out rodents in winter months. The sealant will be away from cooking surfaces/direct heat. Would this be appropriate?

  • A: This product might work for that application but I think something like JB weld might be something to consider instead.

Q: If I apply the Imperial High Temp Silicone Sealant and then in future have to change the rubber gasket on my oven, how do I remove the silicone sealant? Thank you.

1 Answer
  • A: You may be able to carefully scrape the silicone off a smooth, hard surface with a sharp knife. I'm not sure if it would be easy to remove from a rubber gasket.
