    Good for most gutters

Worked great for what I needed. Hinges sometimes have to be adjusted to fit gutters. Relatively easy to install.

I installed these in Sept 2013, and yah it kept the leaves off, but come winter time...As snow and ice came off the roof it completely ripped these off the eaves. I would come home to find pieces of the guard hanging off. Wasted money for sure

No, I do not recommend this product.

I have a major issue with the clips used to attach these gutter guards to the gutter lip - they keep popping off! The concept of a gutter guard that could be swung out for cleaning is what initially attracted me ,but until there is a better attachment system,I am returning them for a refund.

No, I do not recommend this product.

This is the only way to go !

This product is much more practical than the smart screen product. I have tried both and in terms of installation ease and ease of maintenance, this is the only way to go. The expanded metal screen (EMS) is easy to cut with tin snips and to manipulate for a proper fit. Be sure to leave a small gap between the sections being installed so that flipping them open for cleaning is made easier. The wind may catch a corner and flip them open but they can easily be flipped back when this happens. To install, just clip them on to the edge of the gutter . To make a section shorter, just remove the clip on one side of the section, cut to the proper length and reinstall clip. Using stand off brackets for your ladder, place the brackets onto the roof and you can safely install/remove or open the screens for cleaning . I have clients that I have cleaned eavestroughs for years. Now, I install these screens and it needs cleaning only every couple of years and it is not the chore that it used to be.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Questions

    1 - 2 of 2 Questions

Q: hinged gutter guard attaches to gutter and then lies on top of shingles?? wind has lifted the first hinged guard, suggestion how to make sure it stays down on shingles??

    1 Answer
    • A: The first and best option is to overlap the ends of the gutter guard pieces. The overlap should be .75” to 1”. By overlapping, it “locks” the pieces together and it requires significantly more force (wind) in order to lift multiple pieces of gutter guard. The other option is to find some caulk that’s close to the color of the shingles and then put some caulk on the edge of each guard. 2” to 3” at each end of the guard as well as in the middle should suffice.

Q: How does it stand up to elm seeds? I have mature elms on my property, and they rain seeds like snow in the spring.Does this gutter guard get clogged due to elm seeds?

    1 Answer
    • A: 64-5101 is not the ideal choice if you are trying to protect your gutters against elm seeds. This is a steel mesh cover and the holes are quite large. Even if the seed doesn’t get caught in the hole, they can’t blow away because the seed will get stuck to the mesh. 64-1197 gutter shield or 64-5104 smart screen would be better choices. The holes are smaller and the surface is smooth allowing the seeds to blow off easily.
