Will save your paddle and less expensive than most competitors

I have a pup that I’m training to accompany me in my open cockpit kayak. He’s still fidgety and moves around a bit before finally settling. I have occasionally had to grab hold of him or adjust his position in a hurry so letting go of the paddle has been necessary. I also do some backcountry paddling, sometimes in rough water. It’s good to know that if I had to let go of my paddle, this leash would save it. I lost it last year and replaced it with a different brand that I had hoped was a bit longer. It wasn’t, but it was double the price. I managed to lose that one later as well, so when I had to get a third, I went back to the original brand, this one, as it does the same job for half the price. Just remember, if you have a 2 piece paddle, it will slide off when you separate the paddle.

Ok but attachment to handle needs improvement.

It is barely ok for a kayak paddle. I was hoping for better results, but the attachment for the paddle handle is way too loose, so it slips back and forth constantly making paddling annoying as the leash scrapes all over. A velcro fastener that could be tightened and adjusted for any paddle thickness would work much better. I will keep this one and try to modify the attachment to the paddle handle to make it more useful. As it is, I couldn't stand using it and took it off, defeating the whole purpose.

Q: so how does this attach to the paddle? newbie here and there were no instructions with it and cannot tell by the pictures either :(

A: I believe it is meant for paddles that split in the middle for transport, so just take the paddle apart, slip the strap (not the snap clip end) over the point at which the paddles separate, and put the paddles back together. Snap the clip on any of the strings of the kayak or holes in the kayak if you prefer, and you are ready to paddle. I did find the whole in the strap way too big, so it slips back and forth along the paddle and catches on things, so I glued the strap opening to fit fairly tight around the paddle joint, avoiding it sliding back and forth while paddling.
