Q: Will this kill aphids

3 Answers
  • A: Hi Hamtro, The Green Earth Horticultural Oil states on the label, to use during dormant season on currant aphids. You can try our Green Earth Insecticidal soap. MAKE SURE TO READ THE LABEL carefully to see if it works on the plant that you want to use it on. Thanks.

Q: Can we use this on blackcurrants? Last year I had small white worms in the berries! Leaves have already come out on my bushes. Can I use this stuff for white worms in the fruits?

  • A: Hi Joanne - The only growing season uses for Green Earth Horticultural Oil is for woody ornamentals . To use this product on Fruit trees, application must occur before the leaves break (when the trees/bushes are still dormant). Let us know if you have any other questions.

Q: Is this product safe to use on Fiddle Leaf Fig trees (ficus lyrata)?

1 Answer
  • A: Green Earth Horticultural Oil is registered for outdoor use only. As Ficus lyrata is a tropical woody ornamental the horticultural oil should be okay on the product, but it would need to be treated in an outdoor setting. Also, to ensure there are no adverse affects from using the Horticultural Oil, be sure to do a test spray on a few leaves and wait 24 to 48 hours for any ill effects.

Q: Will this work on leafhoppers on virginia creeper? If not, what will?

1 Answer
  • A: Regrettably no, Green Earth Horticultural Oil will not be efective at controlling leaf hoppers. Green Earth Bio-Mist Insect Killer Concentrate (59-3701-6) does list Leafhoppers, but regrettably does not list virginia creeper. At this time the only product that lists both Leafhoppers and Virginia Creeper is Wilson 50% Malathion Insecticide/Miticide Concentrate (59-3757-4). If you would like a copy of the label prior to using please contact the manufacture at 1-800-268-2806 or at pthg.consumerinfo@premiertech.com

Q: Will this product work on green fly on deciduous trees? Those little green bugs with clear wings that like to congregate on the undersides of leaves and lay red eggs all over the tops of them. They excrete "sap" all over everything under the tree which forms a sticky mildewy sap.

  • A: It appears you are describing Lace Bugs. Damage caused by Lace Bugs manifests with leaves going a mottled yellow, gray, white or green. Plus the plant may be stunted in growth, and the leaves and stems can be distorted. Infested leaves may drop prematurely, or even take on a burnt appearance. Severe infestations of Lace Bugs can cause die-back of small branches and twigs. Shiny hard black droplets are found on the underside of damage leaves, along with small light or dark spiny, wingless insects, or brown insects with clear lacy wings. Both spiny, wingless immature insects, and the lacewing adults suck sap from the underside of the leaves. Green Earth Horticultural Oil may give you some control but as it is a contact kill, each insect will need to come in direct contact with the spray. Green Earth Horticultural oil should never be used on edible food crops. It is for woody ornamentals only.A better choice may be Wilson 50% Malathion (059-3757-4) . It is a contact kill, with residual affect, that will control Lace Bugs. It may be used on deciduous trees, fruit trees and small fruits, and evergreens (Please refer to the label for a complete list of acceptable plants). Please NOTE: Certain uses of this pesticide to control weeds or insects, outdoors, such as on your lawn or garden, may be prohibited in your province.
