Good product – if you buy the correct version!

This plastic Vernier caliper (058-1656-8) works fine and is a good value, but there are two versions on the shelves: a correct version with a proper Vernier scale, and an incorrect version that is unfortunately, still on the shelves (as of 15 August 2024). As shown below, on the correct version, the '10' of the Vernier scale aligns to 39mm on the main scale, whereas on the incorrect version, the '10' aligns to 40mm on the main scale. This fundamental design flaw makes the Vernier scale useless and the caliper no better than a simple ruler. I decided to buy both versions so that I illustrate the problem and warn other buyers – make sure you are buying the correct version!

Totally Worthless

There is a reason for the price of these being about $2, and they are not even worth that. The Vernier scale may be a true scale ( or may not), but it's printed so faintly and mis-aligned that it is impossible to use. This thing will give you, at best, 1mm accuracy, which you could get with a ruler or measuring tape more easily. I specifically chose the best looking one out of the 25 or so that I could see on the shelf, and it was terrible quality. The only thing this could be used for, is perhaps as a comparison caliper only, not using anything printed on it for measurements.

No, I do not recommend this product.
