Seems to work fine so far Only purchased this because we find a lot of dead zones in our cellular service and a satellite type GPS would save our butts in a mountainous trip in our RV

Loved my old Garmin. New one is too small to see and dangerous because of it. Directions of use are terrible and someone with common sense should redo them before people get killed! I'm so not happy!

Did not come with in house wall battery charger?

Just set it up and I have to say it's much more complicated to use than the older version I own. Noted also it did not come with a wall charger, as my old one did, which I use frequently to keep the battery charged when not in use. QUESTION? Is it safe to use the wall battery charger from my old Garmin on this Garmin Drive 53? PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS QUESTION.

Q: are free map updates for life

A: Yes they are once you install "Garmin Express" on your computer. I usually update about every 3 months. Also, there isn't a manual in the Garmin Drive 53 box. I had to download the manual. I am not sure how I knew where to download it but I imagine it will be clear from the set up instructions. Hope this is helpful.

Q: Can this unit be mounted in the vehicle console?

A: Unit has a GPS antenna and needs to be mounted with a clear view of the sky. This typically requires for mounting on top of the dash using the included windshield mount.

A: The Drive 53 does not have the capability to calculate routes based on truck details (dimensions, weight, hazmat, etc.) To ensure appropriate routing for a truck, you'll want to use one of the products in our dezl line.
