    Useless

Though the idea of this product had me very hopeful, it just didn't work. I've own an in ground pool for 5 years so I know that with a normal solar blanket I lose 2 degrees F over night. Without I lose 4 degrees. Using this product I lost 4 degrees every night for 3 weeks. The water is always calm as it is surrounded by a fence. During that time, because I was disappointed with the way it was working,a couple of times, I used my normal solar blanket losing only 2 degrees at night. In addition, while using the fish, there was a constant water line film forming. I never had this problem before and after discontinuing I no longer have the problem. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Greatest Thing Ever!!!!

I agree with mikeinfinity and poolguy. This product retains heat as well as the conventional solar blanket in my inground 16'x40' pool. Another important point for me was if you cover your pool with the regular solar blanket, debris cannot go through the skimmer. It gets saturated and then falls to the bottom of the pool, so when you uncover it, the bottom is dirty. Therefore, you have to vacuum. I always vacuum on waste, which means I then have to add water and more fresh water means you have to add chemicals. This adds up to a lot of time, work, and money. The fish are an excellent value. I only use my plastic cover if the temperature drops below 15 degrees celcius at night which is generally only early June and late August.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Proper use matters

This liquid works and has been proven in independent tests. The film is used in rice patties to retain heat and extend the growing season. It is food grade and undetectable in the pool. All it does is create a thin film to prevent evaporation losses (which is 80-90% of your heat loss in a typical pool). The trick is to get the correct amount of film in the pool (which varies with size). You might need to use more fish...or add the product manually. We use the solar pill version which goes in the skimmer. Here an example of actual data I have measured: Pool temp during the day: 82F. Night air temp : 60F. Pool loss at night (no cover): 7F. Pool loss at night (solar blanket cover): 2F. Pool loss at night (liquid cover): 3F. Our pool is 41x20 irregular shaped. These results are typical for us. Both the solar blanket and the liquid cover make a big difference compared to no cover at all. Using the liquid cover instead of the blanket causes a 1F drop in temp for us. No trouble at all considering that my solar cover is a major pain in the neck...easily costing me 20 minutes on+20 minutes remove+clean up pm every deployment. It costs me $15 per month and is zero hassle. There are other advantages. When it rains the solar blankets are useless unless you dry them off since evaporation off the top causes the same losses as if there were no blankets at all. I see steam rising from my pool with the blankets on and after a rain...bye bye heat! I'm back to the full 7F loss when the covers get wet. On the other hand, the thin film from the liquid cover reforms itself after the rain...and no more steam. So the liquid cover actually works better than blankets whenever it rains...3F compared to 7F loss with blankets. Try the solar pill version if the fish doesn't work. It works wonders for us. Our pool is 81F on august 24... all we have is a solar heater and the pool gets almost no direct sunlight all day....thats with no blanket. I'm ready to put my blankets on free-cycle.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    • A: My pool is 16'x40'. I use one fish approximately every 3 weeks. I don't know that it matters whether or not you are swimming in the pool. I suppose it may last a bit longer.

Q: Do these actually work. My solar cover was damaged this year and I cannot afford a new one, just wondering how effective these are

    1 Answer
    • A: The Turbo acts like a conventional solar blanket but without the hassle of pulling it on and off. It will reduce water evaporation by up to 50% and evaporation accounts for 90% of heat loss from a pool. The Turbo Tropical Fish is 80% as effective as a plastic solar blanket but 100% less trouble. The tropical Fish works 24 hrs a day even when people are swimming. The Liquid Solar Blanket creates a tension on the surface of the pool that traps bugs and leaves until it passes through the skimmer. You never have to remove the fish until it’s empty.

Q: why did my fish sink to the bottom of the pool right away when I put it in? I pulled the red tab and cut the black wire

    1 Answer
    • A: Due to many requests from customers, the vendor has modified the Tropical Fish Turbo so that it now sinks when first placed in the Pool water. Previously the Turbo would float semi submerged for a week or two before sinking. The Turbo still operates in the same manner and turns on automatically when put in the Pool water.
