Eastman 60056 water heater element poor quality

We had purchased two of these for our water heater. One was good one had a leak from the electrical connection area. We got a replacement which had exactly the same leak from the eletrical connection area. Got a replacement for that which finally was fine. No leak. The leak was from where the elements passed through the screw-in base to the eletrical connections and coming out the where the screws to attach the electrical wire were in the plastic housing. It appeared that the soldering around the elements into the base was not properly done. Given the danger of combining water and electricity this is totally unacceptable and is an indication of very poor quality control in manufacturing. the problem resulted in three trips to Canadian Tire and having to cleanup water in our utility room from the leak overnight so not really very happy customers. Obviously some of these elements were made correctly because we did get two that worked properly but this problem should not have occurred especially given the risk of electrocution.

Don't waste your time. After installing and turning on the water, it started leaking from the screw terminals. I should have listened to the other reviews that even said the same.

  • A: I used a big Cresent wrench or a good pair of plumber pliers (Channel Lock) worked just fine.
