DEWALT DCS551B 20V MAX Lithium Ion Keyless Cordless Drywall Cut-Out Tool, Tool Only

Picked-up a couple of these DEWALT DCS351B drywall cut-out tools 1.5 years ago on super sale and clearance sale, planning for a reno project that never happened. Even got a RotoZip collet to use with the RotoZip drywall X-Bit. A month or so later, they released the updated version of this cut-out tool, DCE555B, so there was a bit of buyer's remorse for not getting the latest model. Anywhoo, I always wanted a rotary tool, but didn't want to go with a Dremel cordless, mainly to stick with just 1 family of batteries. This tool is a bit larger than a Dremel, but there's the trade-off. At 26,000 rpm, this should still work like a Dremel. Picked-up a 130-pc Dremel accessory kit to have on hand. When I had to drop the fuel tank, to replace the fuel pump, I used the DEWALT DCS356B oscillating multi-tool and Milwaukee 1501 Extreme Metal Carbide blade to cut-off 1 of the rusty tank strap bolts that was just spinning, similar to this (https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/dorman-fuel-tank-strap-hardware-kit-0237152p.0237152.html). That combo produced little to no sparks, and was perfect for the task. When it came time to re-install, I used this DEWALT DCS551B tool and Dremel EZ456B carbide wheel to shorten the bolt from this (https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/dorman-fuel-tank-strap-hardware-kit-0237152p.0237152.html) and to cut-open the bracket piece to make everything fit. Easy to hold the item in 1 hand and cut with the tool in the other, which would be impossible with the DEWALT DCS356B. Lots of sparks, so made these cuts far away from the fuel tank, and also made sure to direct the spray of sparks away. After the 2 cuts, there was still a lot of life left on the cut-off wheel, and these Dremel cut-off wheels are more economical than the Milwaukee carbide blade. Also used this DEWALT DCS551B and Dremel sanding disk to repair a crack in a wooden canoe paddle blade. The size of the tool is a bit unwieldy for precision work, leading to some mistakes. Overall, satisfied with this tool, and maybe one day, I'll actually get to use it on drywall. On a side note, I wish that Canadian Tire would offer more range of DEWALT cordless bare tools, at least for online ordering. Starting to browse the Orange big box store and the Blue big box store, and even some of the specialty trades stores. All these DEWALT batteries need to be put to use.

Takes a little while to master (ie: cut depth, cut direction, control, etc.). Found a DIY on YouTube that was helpful. A wrench to undo the chuck would have been helpful but pliers will do. Appears to be a solid machine that works well once the kinks are worked out of the operator 🙄

Great deal when on sale. Works on different surfaces not just drywall.

I have only had one chance to use this so far. Have not had an issue with it at all. Smack a battery on it. Put a bit into it. Turn it on and it works. Please follow all the safety warnings though. Please learn from me. Turning the switch on while it is held between the thighs does result in some medical attention being required. On the good news side I already had 4 children and on a 3rd marriage so nothing important was damaged.
