The problem with solar chargers is this

I wanted to know if this was actually doing anything so I connected my equally useless Coleman controller to it. The controller has 2 lights, charging and charged. Sounds great right? Nope. The "charging" light comes as soon as you connect the solar panel with the battery nowhere in sight. How can it tell you that your "charging" when there is no battery connected. Gets better. When i connect the battery, the controller charging light goes out (all lights out). Duh.... See this is why solar gets a bad wrap... Useless really..

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Really Keeps the Battery Charged

This device seems to work great. I have a car that I don't drive all that much, or that I might leave parked at some parking lot in the woods for a couple weeks while out canoeing. In the past sometimes I'd have to boost my car in the driveway after not having driven it for a couple weeks, or I'd wonder if anyone would drive by on a remote logging road and give me a boost after a canoe trip. No longer! This little thing is great.

Q: I have a 2014 Mazda CX-5 and a 2006 Mazda Miata. While I'm driving one, the other is parked in my parkade. The parkade is open at one end with indirect light coming in, and a florescent light right above my vehicle. Will this work in this situation?

Q: I have a tractor and boat both with 12 v CTC spec'd batteries that will sit at times for a few weeks and occasionally need either a charge or a "boost" start to go especially in the fall when temps drop will this help and is it weather proof - rain/wind?

    1 Answer
    • A: Yes, the solar panel is weatherproof and will help in this case. This panel is made to maintain a 12-Volt battery and provide a trickle charge over a long period of time.

Q: How can you tell if the product works? Can I text it somehow?

    1 Answer
    • A: The best way to check a solar panel’s output is to use a standard voltage meter or multimeter. Connect the meter to the alligator, battery clamps while the panel is in full sun (observing correct polarity). You should read around 21V DC in strong sun. If you record this reading, the panel is functioning well and can be attached to your vehicle’s battery.

Q: Est-ce qu'il y a un problème si on utilise un démarreur à distance lorsque le chargeur est branché

    Translate with Google
    1 Answer

Q: I drive a2015  Mazda cx5. When I leave for two weeks my battery dies. I have looked at this product and  don't know where to plug this unit in for charging. What is an OBD outlet?  Is this the lighter outlet?

    1 Answer
    • A: The unit can be charged via the cigarette lighter input in a vehicle as long as said input is active when the ignition is off. The unit can also be connected via the OBD (On Board Diagnostics) Port. Refer to the car manual for further information regarding where the OBD port is located inside the vehicle.

Q: Is absolutely safe to charge the battery through the OBD II connector? I've seen a number of people on forums who discourage this, claiming that it might burn out the OBD circuitry. If it is safe, what is the advantage?

    1 Answer
    • A: The Coleman 4W Solar Battery Trickle Charger is safe to use with the OBD II connector as it is designed to charge 12V batteries through this port. The advantage is additional method of charging for those who cannot access a live 12V port in their vehicle.
