    ok machete

On the good side, this machete is quite a sturdy item overall, though the handle is slightly wobbly, and it is very flexible, allowing some shock absorbance. On the down side, the blade is very dull and extremely hard to sharpen. So, if you are looking for a really good machete, it would be better to pay the extra dollar and get one that will last for a long period of time.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Shame on me, shame on other reviewers

Being a cheapskate, I bought this guy hoping that I'd be able to "rehack my showshoeing trail" in the back 40 each winter. (shame on me) As most of us know, 1, the key to a machete is the weight of the blade. 2. portable machetes are not designed to cut 1-1-1/2" branches as some reviewers were expecting (shame on them) I will use this unit to thin out my raspberry patch. This is my next unit 75-5296 $45 at CTC and I don't expect it to cut more than 1/2" of frozen material. Stay tuned for my review of this product in the next week or so when my local CTC gets it back in stock.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Not great

This thing is made from a very mild steel, I've dented it badly just hacking at hardwood limbs. I pretty much have to run it over the bench grinder every time I use it, It's worth $15 I guess but I wish CT would offer a decent machete in the $50 range that could actually hold an edge more than a few minutes.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Good for light duty

This is a very soft metal, dull from the store machete. The handle is a very cheap plastic that came apart the first time I used it and I had to reinforce it with hockey tape. It needs to be sharpened frequently and does not hold an edge well. But if you have some light brush or cat tails etc. this will do the job. You will need to sharpen this after few uses. If you need a machete for yard work or camping I would recommend a Cold Steel or Gerber that will be a better quality metal and not need to be sharpened as often.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Is the machete full tang? Lots of people say it has a bad handle. if the plastic comes off, is the machete full tang so that I can wrap cord around it?

    • A: the tang is 1 or 2 inchs wide with two holes drilled for the handle that you can use to wrap cord around or make your own handle with.

    • A: No, and why are minors always looking to buy knifes on this site?

Q: If the tang of the machete is full tang, how wide is it? Is it wide enough for me to wrap cord around it like a rambo knife or does it have a narrow tang.

    1 Answer
    • A: Yes it is a full Tang which means the metal continues all the way through the handle/grip of the machete. It is 1 3/8” wide in the middle if the handle/ grip removed. The grip itself is 1 ¾” wide by ¾” deep and 4 5/8” long. You could wrap it with cord or rope around it .
