I bought this to stuff in the cracks of an old sliding patio door to help keep the wind out. There's really not to much to say. It did the job well. Fit in the space well. I would buy this produce again

I use this stuff all the time, works great for around doors and windows. I bought some last summer to seal the gaps on the pullout extension in my travel trailer, it worked excellent.

This is the largest of three available sizes. The foam backer rod is designed to fill gaps before applying caulk and it does the job perfectly. It can be compressed to fit inside the gap and completely fills the space thereby remaining snug forever, even when installed vertically. It is unaffected by moisture so it will not change its shape or rot.
Alternative use: I inserted this foam backer rod through the rubber moulding on the bottom of my 9-ft garage door to provide a better seal with the floor when the door is closed. Appears to do the trick.

Q: I need to re-silicone around my bathtub. There are some large gaps. Is this a suitable product for bathroom application? Rot, mold, or mildew issues?

A: Anywhere where there is accumulated moisture or standing water there is a possibility of rot, mold or mildew therefore we generally do not recommend using any type of foam or fabric type materials as fillers. The general procedure for bathtub to wall is to use a cement board or drywall overlap to the tub top flange. Keep the cement board or drywall up ¼ to ½” so it does not contact tub. This is to avoid “wicking” should water touch the underside of the sheet. The cement board or drywall is then required to have a waterproofing membrane secured over the entire surface down to the tub edge. A high grade silicone is then applied between the lower edge of the wall sheet and the tub top flange. This should seal the seam and insure water tight seal. If there are large gaps these gaps should be repaired prior to adding the silicone to insure a tight seal. I understand the request is to use backer rod as “filler” but if the resulting silicone sealant is not 100% there “could be” possible mold or mildew as a result.
