Out of box and running within fifteen minutes.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this product for the price point and the dual fuel feature. The packaging of the generator was well thought out for protection of the generator. Setup was a breeze, I have no intention of using gasoline as my power source, LP is the way to go. It took more time to unpack the generator from the packing than initial setup and first run. Add the oil put the wheels on choose the power source and 3 pulls of the cord it was purring along. By no means is it quite when it’s running but seemed not as loud as my old one. I also like the built in CO2 protection and the digital display. I was looking for a product with an ignition key for ease of startup, instead of a pull string. That feature is the on the upgraded model; that model was out of my price range and more importantly above my requirements. Like all things in life it was a compromise. Very happy with my purchase. I plan to use it for home power backup.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

I recently purchased my 2nd Champion Generator. My 10 year Champion 3000/4000 has worked flawlessly and will now be used as a backup or a family loaner. We had to upgrade our house electrical panel so it was a good time to upgrade to a bigger unit that would power most of the house. I was also looking for the cold weather start option. We got this 5500 watt at a great sale price. I has only rub 2 hours so far but is a great replacement. I am sure it will last as long as our smaller one.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Is this generator CSA approved and does it have a bonded neutral? Is the neutral bonded to the frame of the generator?

    3 Answers
    • A: Yes the neutral is bonded to the frame to comply with CSA standards, however from Champion technical bulletin: For certain generator applications, a qualified electrician may recommend removing the neutral bond to the generator frame, resulting in a “floating neutral”. Feeding electrical power to a house through a transfer switch which does not switch neutral may be one example." See attached photo showing this wiring is easily accessed on the generator frame. Q: how and when do you use the grounding bolt on the bottom right of the front panel

    2 Answers
    • A: You need to use it when it is in portable mode.Pounding a copper rod into the ground and connecting is what you do.If your are going to use a transfer switch in your house,do not connect the ground...it is grounded at the house. Also, with a transfer switch you must disconnect the neutral from the ground on the genertor,Champion has instructions on-line...easy to do...5 minutes and you're done.

Q: Does this generator have a 30 amp. 110 v plug on it for RV Campers? Champion 5500W Portable Generator Sale: $699.99 Reg: $899.99 Product #55-0322-4 The plug would be round with three contacts in the plug. One for ground and the other two would be hot.

    2 Answers
    • A: As a licensed electrician I can tell you the above is not correct. A 120 v outlet will have a ground, a neutral and a hot. If you have two hot leads then you have a strictly 240 volt outlet that will fry an rv system. If in doubt, consult a professional. Loren
