The Champion 20-Ton Gas Log Splitter makes efficient work of stockpiling firewood or processing fallen timber on your property or jobsite. Equipped with a 224cc, 4-stroke, single cylinder engine, this gas-powered splitter can be operated both horizontally or vertically and features a skewed wedge to easily cut through hardwoods. I had two 25 ton yardworks, and now a 27 ton champion. They all run hot after minimum use. They sent me a pump and a new lever control but hasn’t solved the overheating problem. Stay away from these splitters!!

Great splitter for BC's west coast

I bought this splitter to replace a small 8 ton electric splitter, which was difficult to use on anything over 12" diameter.
We split mostly Douglas Fir, that's bit bucked 2-5 months prior. I can honestly say that this 20 ton splitter has more than enough power to instantly split even the largest log. Some of our rounds are 24-30 inches. For the larger ones, it's easy to splt as we can just roll them up to the splitter and use it in vertical mode.
Assembly was straight forward, requiring only a few basic wrenches, screw drivers and allan keys.
Note that the splitter does not come with engine oil or hydraulic fluid. You will need about 1 L of 10W30 or 5W40 engine oil and 18-20L of AW32 hydraulic fluid.
We've split about 1 cord in our first sessions without breaking a sweat. We really like this splitter and can't wait to split the next 3-4 cords over the next month.
If you are picking this up in a crate, note that it's very heavy and the store may not have a forklift that's able to load it into your pickup or trailer. The other option is to have the store assemble it for a small fee (it would still come with no oil / hydraulic fluid).
The listing should really make it clear that assembly is required and that oils are not included. Hydraulic oil will run you $60-$120 depending on what you choose. We also got a Champion cover which fit perfectly.

Only have 6 hours on new machine but works great so far, starts first pull every time. I would have given a 5 star but there is no adjustment for support leg like on the older model to help level machine on uneven ground.

- A: Your call actually, you can recieve the splitter as is still in the crate OR have it assembled. Which by the way there is NO extra charge for assembly. Q: Why no hydraulic filter on the Champion log splitter ? May you install a filter without affecting the warranty ? Most problems with hydraulic systems is oil contamination.

If you choose to modify the tank and add an external oil filter, that modification will be done on your own and at your own risk. Modifying the unit in any way will void the manufactures warranty.
