The benefits of using a tarp include providing a separation layer between your tent and the ground, keeping your tent bottom clean, and not permitting ground moisture to wick into the tent material. Inversely, be mindful that during rainfall, water will collect on top of the tarp. You will also find that being equipped with a tarp while camping can be very handy, if not essential, for other purposes (to provide shelter for people, canoes, tents, firewood, and the list goes on).

Q: Is this tarp safe to use for covering compost piles? I intend to use it to trap heat and moisture in our compost piles. Will the material degrade and leach toxic chemicals when exposed to the sun?
