Q: What is the the burlap coated in for water retention? I'm looking for natural options to grow plants in and suspect this will be coated in a petro-chemical derivative which defeats the purpose of it being made of natural fibers...

A: The burlap bag has a plastic liner that is used for water retention purposes, there is no chemical on the burlap itself.
