Plastic gears are inadequate

The crank broke because the stem that the plastic worm gear is attached to got jammed in the tube. To remove that stem I need a hammer and a stick in the bottom. Unfortunately, because it was jammed, the worm gear is now ruined and it is plastic. I'm unsure if I can ever replace this I might have to junk the whole thing

Q: can a hook be attached to the centre of the tripod to hang weight for stability?

  • A: Pretty sure using a rope wouldmake it possible. However, there is no hook or ring at the bottom of the center shaft to attach a specific hook.
