Mediocre at best

Cheap and requires extremely excessive force to pull up 90 pounds. Pulley system should be way better designed.

Kayak hoist-Going Up!

This Kayak hoist is relatively easy to install when you follow the instructions and make sure that you use the correct measurements. The only weakness is the chord line which easily frays.

Q: How long does it take to install a garage ceiling kayak lift

3 Answers
  • A: Depends on your ceiling, but it probably took me 30-45 minutes in a car port with exposed joists. So, not long

Q: Are the hanging straps adjustable?

3 Answers
  • A: Not adjustable but to hang my 17' fiberglass kayak tighter to the underside of our deck I just doubled each strap over on itself and they nicely reach around the kayak and hook onto the hoist with a minimum of extra hang below the hoist hooks.

Q: What's the minimum height the paddle board will suspend below the rafters? I have joists at about 10' and want to store a paddle board so it is suspended below the rafters and above the garage door even when it is open .

  • A: I have no idea. My garage door is too close to the garage ceiling for my kayak to fit between them. It’s also not wide enough for my kayak to fit between the door tracks on the side and the center track of the door.

Q: What is the thickness of the rope? It's frayed right out of the box and want to replace it with something more heavy duty.

  • A: I was also not impressed by the included rope and replaced mine right off the bat as I am storing my kayak outside year round. I first used 1/4" polypropylene rope which worked well but was kind of thin under stress and started to fray after a couple of years. I just replaced that with 75 ft of 3/8" 32 strand diamond braid polypropylene rope which fits nicely in the pulleys and breaking mechanism. It is a little flexible and squishy so when squeezed a bit fits through the anchor holes as well. It is easier to hold and haul on than the 1/4" or included rope. A 50" length should work for a typical ceiling installation.

Q: Can you mount the hooks horizontally instead of vertically to reduce the height clearance? Are the hooks rated to take the load in torsion/ shear instead of tension? This is to mount a paddle board.

1 Answer
  • A: I'm not sure I understand the question, but they are pulleys that pull the unit up to the ceiling, not sure you can attach it horizontally because the unit is pulled up to the ceiling with the loops and there is a latch that catches and locks or unlocks to release and lower the unit.
