i found this more stress than its worth. barely secured to my rod and the time it took to fiddle with it couldve been spent relaxing fishing.

I have used these for two years and can compare them against straight lights, bells, etc. that you can also buy. These used to be more expensive, at their current price they are an excellent buy! Detection: Very good. I use these a lot for night fishing channel catfish on a large river with lots of waves. This unit quickly learns what waves look like, and ignores them! When the alarm does go off there is always a fish biting. Sometimes I doubt what it is telling me and reel in to find a tiny perch or something. Attachment: The first weakness of the product is that it tends to be finicky on attachment to the rod. On some rods it is either too tight or too loose, it can be hard to get it attached well. Brightness: Excellent, easy to see when light flashes. Loudness: POOR - Biggest product weakness, the beeper is pathetic, you can hardly hear it. It also varies a lot from unit to unit (I have 8 of these, they all sound different). Battery Life: Good - But sound gets quiet fast. LED has excellent battery life, I change batteries perhaps once a season. Durability: Another POOR point. These units cannot take any water contact at all! Incredible for a product to be used near the water. If your rod tips over and the unit goes in the water, it is done. That said, if you remove the batteries when you get home, take the unit apart, dry it out, and put it back together. It does work. I have only had one permanently damaged from water. Final Word: If you are fishing with KIDS, this is a great product, especially at night. The kids watch for that light and get so excited when one starts to blink!
