Excellent replacement for an old Crane sink

I needed a replacement for my Crane sink in the lower floor washroom. This American Standard Coronette fit the cut-out perfectly and even the drain aligned. I noted that this sink has a plastic overflow drain which is great - the old Crane was welded on metal which is exactly where it rusted, leaked and failed.
This new one should last until the next remodelling.

Good for a quick fix, but not long term

I used to have this basin in the bathroom, and for the first year or two, it does the job, but, after that, it starts to rust along the edges and needs replacement. It's good for a quick fix, but, I wouldn't recommend it for long term.

Q: I bought two, but the vinyl ring that goes around the edge was split in both units and I hadn’t even taken them out of the plastic bag. Is this the way it is supposed to be?

A: Yes they are meant to have a split . The split goes on the outer edge of the basin all the way around before you set it in the hole. You start with the open part at the back centre of the faucet. Since this is your first time it will be a little awkward. I hope Emily reads this.
