Stopped turning off automatically after a few months of occasional use. It just keeps boiling endlessly without shutting off.

Q: is the steeping basket removable?

A: Yes, it is! You can unscrew it from the lid. It does take off the top part of the lid's handle (the part that rises with the basket, you can see it in review photos), but you can still use the bottom part to open it. There's also a small hole left from where the basket post was, but I haven't noticed any effect on the kettle's function with it there :) I just store the removed lid part inside the unused basket so as not to lose it.
