What are the four styles of power sander?

The four main styles of power sander are:

Belt sanders: considered an essential tool for large and demanding projects, the belt sander is ideal for removing old finish from wood fast and efficiently. It comes available in portable and larger stationary models.

Detail sanders: the detail sander’s triangular shape makes it a perfect tool for tight angular spaces and corners, and tasks requiring finishing or small-scale projects.

Orbital sanders: orbital sanders are compatible with circular sanding discs and can create smooth, swirl-free surfaces due to their random circular motion. Palm sanders use a more predictable motion and are also ideal for finishing surfaces.

Sheet sanders: the highly versatile sheet sander works with any sandpaper. Offering a comfortable grip, they can be used to smooth a wide range of materials from wood to soft metal and plastic.

How do I choose a power sander?

Consider what you'll be using it for. If you do a lot of wood finishing, a random orbit, detail, or palm sander is a good choice. For a wider variety of more demanding jobs, a belt or sheet sander is ideal.

Additional information for residents of Quebec only: The regular annual rate for persons applying for the Triangle Mastercard and the Triangle World Elite Mastercard is 21.99% for cash transactions and related fees and 21.99% for all other charges. Some applicants may receive a higher or lower regular annual rate depending on a credit evaluation. The minimum payment is the sum of (a) the greater of: (i) interest and fees shown on your statement + $10; or (ii) 5% of the New Balance, excluding amounts on special payment plans, (b) any balance over your credit limit, (c) any amounts past due not included in (b) above, and (d) the amount of any equal payments plan instalments then due. Balances under $10 are due in full. For residents of Quebec, the period between the statement date and the due date for payment is 26 days.
