Good sharpening, bad tools

I tried using the kit with a Yardworks 18 inches mower, the kind with a bolt on the driving wheel. The crank did go on there, but not all the way in as it's supposed to. I had to use a mallet to put it on so that it wouldn't just slide out. The crank would need to be slightly larger to prevent it from falling out, which is quite annoying. The paste works great but the brush is way too soft, I was able to pick some up by pushing the back of the brush with my fingers as I was trying to "scoop" some up. After that, I just applied some to the blades by dragging the brush sideways and very slightly towards the blades to make sure the paste would come off. They ended up well sharpened and would easily cut a piece of paper. Just make sure your blade rubs relatively tightly near the cutting area then lessen the pressure on the blade in tiny increments until it stops rubbing. After that, tighten a tiny bit again to bring back some pressure (a tiny amount) and start sharpening.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Not compatible with same brand reel mower

I bought this to sharpen my Yardworks reel mower that I'd purchased brand new in 2023. The handle did not fit the Yardworks brand reel mower. It is duller since using the back lapping kit. Constantly getting stuck on any grass, Dandelions now cause it to jam where it used to bust through small twigs from time to time that I'd missed during the pre-mow lawn walk. Would not reccomend. Id personally suggest getting a fine metal file (flat) and sharpening the blades by hand, if you have the option, rather than getting this kit.

Flimsy Handle

The handle fits okay on a Scott's mower but it's too flimsy for the job. The business end was bent before I was even halfway through sharpening. It became too loose to grip the pawl, and I had to bang it back into shape with a mallet. Other reviewers have complained about the lapping compound being too thick. Just pop it in the microwave for 10 or 15 seconds and it will be a liquid. Overall, the kit works, and there aren't many other options. Too bad they didn't use heavier gauge steel tube for the handle. It would have made the whole experience a lot easier.

Q: Lubricate blades with included compound? The last step in the manual says to wipe off excess shapening compound and then lubricate blades with similar material? Does this mean lubricate the blades with the included compound (after wiping off compound used for sharpening)?

Q: how to remove wheel for sharpening? There is a nut which is not shown in exploded view. I can see e-ring under the nut but I can't get at it, and the nut is so tight that I can't loosen it.
