Better Get Usual Brass Female Coupling

1) Leaking at the plastic insert. 2) Hard to put the plastic insert onto the hose.

Great product

I bought this product because it didn't have any sharp edges like hose clamps to get caught on anything or injure the user. It does, however demand a bit of creative thinking to get the hose attached to the black plastic nipple and a pair of water pump pliers were required to tighten the brass pieces together. More detailed instructions would be very helpful as the inexperienced DIYer would find the installation very challenging. Overall, the mender is a slick product once installed correctly!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 3 of 3 Questions

Q: Bought the 1/2 inch brass female hose coupling. Can’t figure out how I’m supposed to fit the black plastic part into the hose.  There is no mention of it in the instructions.

  • A: You first unscrew the brass ring. You put that ring onto the hose with the threaded end facing the end of the hose. Then you put the black plastic ring onto the hose, barbed side facing the ring you had just put onto the hose. (This goes onto the hose, not inside it. If you are having a hard time fitting the black plastic thing onto the hose, it may be because you have a hose that is larger than 1/2". That is the the size hose this fitting is made for.) Finally, screw the remaining brass part onto the first brass ring as tight as possible. Someone complained about the thing leaking. That is likely because the fitting wasn't screwed together tightly enough, or there was no rubber washer when this fitting was connected to the faucet. This thing is a great alternative to the fittings that use those hose clamps.

Q: I have the identical question that Barb has. I purchased the same product 059-3272-6 and it has a black plastic part which I cannot figure out how to fit it into the hose

  • A: You actually have to pry all the fingers on that black piece open enough one by one while forcing the hose on until it bottoms out. Then screw the 2 brass pieces together. I had to use 2 water pump pliers to tighten them. It would be very helpful if the manufacturer would provide some detailed instructions on how to install this product.
