Shirley punches above her weight class

This thing is honestly way better than you'd expect for the price of it. My recommendation? Glue some Googly-eyes to the top of it and give it a name. Ours is Shirley, named after my grandma, and just like my grandma, this little monster will destroy anything that it comes into contact with. We lost four full trees, and an overwhelming amount of large branches in an ice storm a year and a half ago. The big stuff went to the wood pile and the kid's fort, but everything else? Shirley ate it. Gave us enough mulch to do any gardening projects that my wife thinks of and then some. The blades last decently long, and they're easy and cheap to replace. All in all, I know that we've been using Shirley for more than what she's intended for, but she's done admirably. The only constructive feedback I can think of, is that unscrewing the knob to open her up and clear a jam takes a hot minute. That, and I think it should come with the googly eyes already glued on.

Yes, I recommend this product.

The price was right, and the portability was good. I am more than pleased withthe capabilities, although I have not tried shredding green material.

Don't waste your time and money

Purchased this chipper last year, used it once. Then put it away in my garage. Took it out this week July 8. 2026. Turned it on, after using it for like 5 minutes I had to go inside the house so I turned it off. Never was able to started again. Waited hours, it doesn't start even though, there's no clogs it's not jammed or anything!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Customer Service with AI Support
Thank you for sharing your experience with the YARDWORKS YF8010 1.54-in 15A 120V Electric Corded Garden Shredder/Chipper. We understand how frustrating it can be when the device does not restart after use. Since there are no blockages or jams, it might be helpful to check if the overload protector has been triggered. You can leave the shredder off for a few minutes and then press the reset button to try restarting it. If this does not resolve the issue and you have not already done so, please consider taking the product to the nearest store for further assistance. For more information, feel free to contact our call center at 1-866-523-5218.

Portable. Easy to assemble, The bin is handy. Nice to not need gasoline, oil, and the associated maintenance issues. It does chip wood and new blades are available if needed. A good alternative to a heavier gas-powered chipper. So far so good.

Q: Can this shredder good for straw bales?

  • A: I haven't used it for straw. It should work if you'd don't pack it too tight. I used it to shred veg. garden waste. It got jammed easily with that.

Q: Would this shredder work on green garden/ flower bed  waste like perennials you cut back at end of season or spring cleanup?

3 Answers
  • A: Yes, as long as the garden/yard waste has been dried out a bit, it works great for small yard waste. Its very loud though and may spit a few pieces of waste back out at you, best to wear protective eyewear, ear plugs and gloves.

Q: will it shred freshly cut branches from a cedar hedge about 1.5 inches thick ?

3 Answers
  • A: 1.5 inches is the maximum diameter you can fit through it so I would say no. It would definitely struggle with a branch that size. The biggest I’ve used it for is sunflower stalks, which it shred easily but that is nothing like solid wood.

Q: Will this shred blackberry bushes or brambles? Some have been cut for an extended period, but have remained outside.

3 Answers
  • A: Yes. Shrub and small tree branches work fine, but the drier the pieces are, the easier they are to process. I use mine for thorny Goji branches all the time. As many others have said: this easily clogs when shredding moist material, no matter how you do it.

Q: How are the results for leaves and kitchen fruit and vegetable waste??

3 Answers
  • A: Don't know about kitchen scraps. But when I was using it for branches of Western red cedar, I notice the blades get stuck more often when doing softer wetter leaves as oppose to chopping up firm dry finger thick woody twigs.
