Incredible sleeping bag. Too bad they discontinued it.

I just bought one of the last of these around Manitoba, to replace a 0⁰C rated bag that I nearly froze to death in and returned. The difference is night and day. This bag is sooo warm. The 2 different layers are a great feature for heat regulation. Tons of room and very plush and comfy. Very well made with a fantastic canvas outer shell, super soft flannel lining, and heavy duty zippers. The hood even can be used as a pillow. As others have mentioned, this bag wouldn't be ideal for long hikes, as it's 40 inches wide in its carry bag and weighs at least 15 lbs. But having said that, I may be tempted to try bringing it just because it's such an awesome sleeping bag. Before I rolled it up, noticing how plush it was on my super hard bed, I laid down on the bag on my bed. The pressure points that bother me at night, being my hips and shoulders, felt better instantly. I may just use this bag on my bed when I'm not using it for camping. It would be worth what I paid for it just to make my bed more comfortable. The fact that I got a great deal on it only makes me happier with my purchase. If you're lucky enough to still be able to find one of these, just buy it. As long as you ok with it's size, I don't think you'll ever regret it. If you can't find one, I'm guessing the Yukon 10 might be just as good or better.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Fantastic Sleeping bag

I've bought one Yukon 7 and one Yukon 10 sleeping bags. Both are marvelous but Yukon 7 a little lighter and less bulky. I really appreciate their confort and they are so supple, sleeky and warmth. They are the Holly Grail of the sleeping bags as far as I'm concerne. I'm bulky with broad shoulders and feel so good inside. Plenty of space and total confort and very well made. Very high quality bags. I would really recommand you to buy one of them. It's the summum into the sleeping bag world! Mario P. Drummondville (Québec)

    Questions

    1 - 8 of 8 Questions

Q: It says that a person can sleep on or in the internal liner. Does this mean that a person can sleep in the middle of the bag for the coldest conditions or sleep in the top 1/4 of the bag with 3/4 below for warmer conditions and more cushioning underneath?

    1 Answer
    • A: There are multiple layers to the sleeping bag- the more layers you include, the lower temperatures the bag can withstand. You can remove the layers for milder conditions as well. You could sleep on the other layers for cushioning, but this is not the intended use.

Q: How do you clean it? Wash or dry clean?

    1 Answer
    • A: Sleeping Bag Care Suggestions: Spot Cleaning Sleeping Bags: Any time you wash a sleeping bag, you subject it to wear and tear and decrease the loft a little. Spot cleaning the shell with a paste of laundry detergent, water and a toothbrush is advised before washing the whole thing. Focus on the hood and collar where hair and skin oils tend to accumulate. By holding the shell or liner fabric away from the insulation, you can wash and rinse the area without getting the inside wet. Washing: If your bag is losing loft, is darkened with grime and basically no longer inhabitable, then by all means give it a full washing. Washing a 5 Star bag would entail taking as many of the components apart and wash separately to make the job go a little faster. Remove any down layers possible and be sure to use a gentle soap. See below under tips. Many people prefer to have their bag professionally laundered. These pros should use the same ways as detailed below. No dry cleaning and no agitation machines. Tip: Dry cleaning is not appropriate for sleeping bags, especially down. Solvents used in dry cleaning can strip the natural oils from down that help it retain loft. Solvents are also very difficult to remove from synthetic insulation. If you decide to wash your bag yourself, use a gentle, non-detergent soap that is made for washing down- and synthetic-filled items. There are many companies making down soaps. Ex. Nik Wax Down Soap Down: For down bags, hand-washing in a bathtub works best. Fill the tub with warm water and add one of the above-recommended cleaners. Put the bag in and gently work in the soap, then allow it to soak for 15 minutes. Drain the tub and press out any remaining water. In a cold-water rinse, work the soap out gently, let the bag sit for 15 minutes and drain. Press out any remaining water. Repeat the rinse until all the soap is out. It's also possible, (according to some bag manufacturers) to machine wash a down bag, as long as a front-loading washer is used. Never use an agitator-style machine as the motion can damage the stitching and insulation. Make sure to wash on the gentle cycle in cool water with one of the aforementioned down soaps. Synthetics: Synthetic bags can be washed in the same way. Hand-wash in a bathtub, or use a large, front-loading washer with no agitator. Use cool water and mild soap. Rinse several times to make sure all the soap is removed. An extra spin cycle or an extractor may be used to remove excess water. Drying: Air drying is the safest way to dry your bag, but obviously the longest. If you tumble dry your bag, use very low heat or a no-heat setting and keep an eye on it. Dryers have varying heat outputs, so you need to check periodically to make sure the shell and insulation aren't overheating, which can actually lead to melting. Add a couple of clean tennis balls when the bag is nearly dry. This will help break up any clumps of insulation and help restore the loft. Storage: How you store your bag affects its lifespan. When you arrive home from a trip, first air out the bag inside-out to make sure it's dry. Then store loosely in a large cotton storage sack—often included when you purchase a sleeping bag. Do not store your bag compressed in its stuff sack as this will eventually damage the fill. Watertight storage bags are also a bad idea. Condensation can build up inside and result in mildew.
