On the plus side, they are long and they did not collapse after 3 weeks of use in wind and rain. The negatives are that aluminum will bend and one of our 4 poles did so when wind pulled our tarp. Now that pole was very difficult to collapse and will have to be replaced. As well, they were holding a fair bit of water when we took them down. They give the appearance of being water tight but are not.
