Absolutely useless, The ants literally swarm all around them and it has had no effect. They are still flourishing.

Hello Jim, It is a good thing that the ants are swarming around the trap. When ants consume the borax bait, it interferes with their digestive system and gradually kills them. This slow kill allows time for the worker ants to consume the bait and head back to the nest to share with the rest of the colony and queen. If looking for something faster in controlling those ants that they see, you can buy ant out ant spray with permethrin for fast effective control. PremierHomeGardenProducts

I don't think this product works at all. I bought a pack of 12, placed them at different spots of the kitchen counter and floor, never saw an ant crawled back out and died. And the black ants kept on invading our space. Two thumbs down.

Q: what kind of ants does this product kill? I'm looking for something to kill carpenter ants

A: The Borax in it will kill any kind of ant, but different ants are attracted to different bait - some like sweet things, some like oily things, some like rotting wood. All I can tell you is that the bait in these traps does not attract wood-loving ants, so I would guess it would be useless against carpenter ants.
