Water barrel

Well just bought this barrel on sale. It seems that the barrel itself has two little pin holes in it from the factory. So it is not so good at holding water I guess. Everything else seems somewhat good, but I could not give more than a one, since the main function is a fail.

Just Garbage

Needed a new rain barrel and this one was on sale. Set it up in the same place my old one was and waited for the first rainfall, which happened last night. Went out in the rain to check on it and found that the screen given for the hole makes the water just bounce off and nothing goes into the barrel. I took the screen off and the barrel filled up. Then I realized this barrel is too small for the amount of water falling, so unless you live in Arizona, this barrel will fill up in about 3 seconds and then overflow against your house. But wait! There's more! This morning I decided that I would move this barrel to my shed, where it wouldn't be immediately overwhelmed by the amount of water it had to collect. That's when I discovered that the spigots provided let the water out at such a low rate that it is going to take me approximately 5 years to drain the thing.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: I am told the light coloured barrels may cause algae to form . This is so with white ones is this the same with this beige one?

A: Yes, lighter barrels have a tendency to grow algae. When there is an algae buildup for some reason, it can be dispelled with 1 Tbsp of Apple Cider Vinegar per every gallon of water or a few capfuls of bleach followed by a thorough rinsing.

Q: does the top come off and can a hose be attached?

A: This is a one piece rain barrel, so the top will not come off in order to prevent children from getting into the barrel. Yes, you can hook up a hose to either of the brass spigots – the bottom location has improved water pressure.
