    Good Quality Primer

I needed a good quality primer to paint a differential, as well as brake calipers I was installing on my vehicle. This primer covered well and after priming I was able to top-coat the differential and brake calipers without any fuss (also with VHT paint). One can of primer was more than sufficient to prime my differential and 4 brake calipers.

Worked like a charm. Easy application and is holding up against the heat of my caliber.

    VHT primer

Product performed as stated. I was hoping that it would have had a slightly shinier finish but it still looks good. A little more on the gray side as opposed to silver.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: If I have no primer can I use the paint itself as a primer

    • A: From what I have researched you can use this without primer, in fact if you are going to use a primer it will need to be a high  temp primer as well. I used it on exhaust manifolds without a primer and it seems to be holding up very well.

Q: I'm painting engine covers on a 04 Yamaha R6. The CSP405 black pearl engine metallic is a near identical match to the colour of the covers but I need primer before the topcoat. The VHT website says use SP148 primer. Is this primer compatible?

    1 Answer
    • A: SP148 can be used as primer under the CSP405 Engine Metallic.

Q: Can I use it as primer on motorcycle exhaust?

    1 Answer
    • A: Flameproof Primer would be suitable on a motorcycle exhaust. Please ensure that you don’t plan on top-coating the primer with a non-high-heat rated paint under the assumption that the primer will protect the top-coat. A high heat top coat must still be used.

Q: If I'm good with grey, can I use the primer alone?

    1 Answer
    • A: The primer is designed to be top coated, but if baking procedures are followed the primer could be used by itself.

Q: Is this the SP148 primer? It should say CSP148 on the label located on the lid if it's the sp148 I require.

    1 Answer
    • A: No this is not the SP148 primer – we do not carry this item. If you can let us know what you would like to use the product for we can provide a recommended substitute.
