      False Gas alarms

Bought it about two years ago. Unit start producing false Gas alarms during the night. It's located in the basement with closed windows, next to the gas furnace and gas water heater. It's summer, so furnace is off and water heater doesn't turn on much during the night. Sometime unit stops alarming on it's own, the other times battery has to be pulled out. No smell of gas and the gas leak doesn't stop on its own, so things do not add up.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Put in new gas furnace back in Nov. Wanted a detector for daughters room as it is above the furnace. Had a few false alarms over the months, until spring it continued to go off. Called fire department and found 0 CO and Gas, in and around the home. I have NO confidence in this product

      False Alarm in the Night

Another dissatisfied customer with gas alarm going off in the middle of the night, but no gas smell. After searching the house for an hour or so with still no gas smell we took it for a drive in the vehicle. Device went off while we were driving in our truck and outside in a field. A total piece of junk. I can see this could cause problems if you call the gas company for this as it causes panic without cause!! Very disappointed.

No, I do not recommend this product.

      False Alarm

I had this unit plugged in for about a week when it scared the bejesus out of my friend and I this weekend. We called the fire department and they came in with their high tech meters... lo and behold, their meters read a big fat "0". They even went to my neighbours house and checked their place as well in case the gas might be seeping in through the walls. "0" again! They suggested that I change the battery (even though I was using the battery that came with the unit - brand new). Changed the battery... an hour later, it did it again. Returning it today. Don't bother with this product.

No, I do not recommend this product.

      • A: No - it detects natural gas, not propane. It will detect CO for a propane fireplace though.

Q: in an apt no basement, where to place the detector there is a gas stove in the small kitchen, apt all on one floor

      1 Answer
      • A: Where this alarm should be installed: Install an alarm inside each bedroom where the occupant closes the door while sleeping. • An alarm should be installed in any family living unit containing a fuel-burning appliance or fireplace or having an attached garage. • An alarm should be centrally located outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms. Where bedrooms are separated and audibility of the alarm to occupants within the bedroom area could be seriously impaired, more than one alarm could be needed. WHERE YOU CAN HEAR THE ALARM FROM ALL SLEEPING AREAS. • In or near bedrooms and living areas or wherever you suspect a gas or CO exposure is likely. • On each level of a multilevel home. You may call the manufacturer for assistance at 1-800-390-4321, Ext. 238

Q: Where should this natural gas/carbon monoxide alarm be installed? What height?

      1 Answer
      • A: While gases diffuse quickly, still since molecular weight of carbon monoxide is 28 and that of air is about 29, it is possible that slightly higher concentration would gather at the ceiling than at the bottom of basement and locating this unit at ceiling of basement may be ideal to detect this at earliest.
