Thompson's WaterSeal Heavy Duty Deck Cleaner is specially formulated to remove weathered clear and tinted waterproofers and semi-transparent stains from decks and other exterior wood surfaces. It also restores the natural color to severely weathered and discolored wood without bleaching. Unlike many competitive products, this deck cleaner is self-neutralizing, which means you will not need to apply another solution before deck waterproofing or staining.

Pressure treated deck is noticeably cleaner and brighter after using the product. It doesn't remove all the grime and signs of aging but it sure did make a difference.

Although this is a good product, its not great for the stubborn areas that need something more aggressive. I'll continue to use but best to hold off if you've skipped cleaning gor a couple years.

Q: How do you actually apply this product? Is it sprayed on or poured on? I wanted to use it on the underside of my wood staircase.

Q: Is scrubbing required? Also what do you recommend to seal the deck

A: Thanks for taking the time to ask a question. You would want to scrub the surface with a synthetic, stiff bristle brush (do not use a wire or natural bristle brush. NOTE: To determine if the surface is sealed or can be sealed, perform a "Water Test". The water test is accomplished by dripping some water on the surface of the substrate. If the water penetrates into the surface and makes it noticeably darker, then it is ready for another coat of Thompsons. If the water beads up on the surface, then hold off on the application (currently the substrate is sealed and does not require an additional layer of sealer). Which product you put down next will be based on whether you want color, clear, Semi-Transparent/Solid etc. We are happy help you choose. Q: Can you use this product to just clean pressure treated wood and leave it? (no stain following the clean)

A: Hey, thanks for the question. The person who provided the community answer is partially correct. Just applying our Deck Cleaner product by itself will not offer UV protection and will not protect the wood for very long. It would "age" the wood quickly. Hope this helps. A: used multiple times on treated wood and works fine, suppose that will work similar on the composite as product is acid base ingredient/read label/ directed to remove dirt, mildew, algae, and fungus stains...

Q: Hi, Can I use this on a painted deck? The deck is painted a bright blue and has some built up dirt from nearby construction. If not this product, what do you suggest?

Q: Hi, I sanded my deck last weekend. Do you still recommend to use the cleaner or can I directly use the waterproofer/protector?

A: I would suggest using a cleaner Product #048-3052 Thompson's Deck Cleaner & Renewer to open the pores of the wood to accept the waterproofer or stain. Sanding alone can close the pores and make the topcoat not penetrate properly.
